We've messed up so very, very badly. There may not be any way to come back from this. Even if we do, we may have lost most of a generation who were raised by the Internet.

And if they're online all the time, this IS. REAL. LIFE for them. There is no distinction for them of online vs IRL. This right here, social media, is their main source of information about how to be an adult in the world.

The danger of the Internet for children is that it connects to other humans, and they're the ones raising our kids. Kids lack the life experience to filter the toxic sludge that issues from the minds and keyboards of other humans.

Surprise! They're already raising your kids if those kids have access to the Internet. The danger of the Internet isn't that it hosts inappropriate content of the sort that my generation had to be pretty sneaky just to glimpse.

Just after the Senate confirmed Hegseth as SecDef, Trump fired between twelve and seventeen (depending on the source you're reading) inspectors general.

He's not the first President to do this. Reagan did the same after he took office, the President who started the country on the path to Trump.

During the Biden administration, Congress established a law requiring the President to notify Congress before removing or reassigning an inspector general, and gives the President eight months to nominate a replacement or give a good reason why they haven't.

Some are appointed by the President, others are chosen by the head of their departments. There are more than 70 across various agencies.

Congress established the office of Inspector General during the Carter presidency as independent watchdogs within Executive departments to cut waste and keep those departments from engaging in unlawful activities.

Like, you walk through the open doorway and can instantly feel the coolth. I like to sleep cold, so I'm totally okay with this. It's puzzling, though. Why doesn't the temp equalize?

I like to think that's the room where some ghost has decided to spend most of their time.
