Progressive guy in Wisconsin who drives wife and daughters nuts because I don’t see or hear worth a darn (#ushersyndrome). What?
@bobcesca.bsky.social , I just read a new substack post by @randirhodes.bsky.social . My wife and I love and miss her. Would be SO COOL if she would be up to being a Wednesday show guest next year.

@bobcesca.bsky.social , I heard you talk about fusion energy. Commonwealth Fusion Systems of MA is showing promise and is building a power plant in VA. Bill Gates is a backer.

"Manufacturing shed 6,000 jobs, continuing a trend in a sector the Trump administration has touted as a key target of its economic policies. Transportation and warehousing also saw job losses totaling 25,300."
The U.S. added 119,000 jobs in September, but there are signs of a weakening labor market
The closely followed report was originally scheduled for release on Oct. 3, but it was shelved by the government shutdown.

@bobcesca.bsky.social , enjoyed your podcast today. You may want to go down a rabbit hole like I did about the shooter's roommate. He may be a femboy in the incel (groyper) community. I am a gen Xer and my head hurts from what I read. Google "incel and femboy".

@markpocan.bsky.social put the republicans on the defense about the shutdown by pointing out dems want to prevent over 5 million people from losing health insurance. Ask them where trump's big beautiful healthcare plan is that's been promised we'd see in two weeks for the last several years.

Excellent article about the online culture that is radicalizing the youth.
"Adolescence" swept the Emmys, with eight wins including best directing under its belt.

But as @markfollman.bsky.social argues, the Netflix megahit misses a key truth: targeted violence isn’t sudden or “inexplicable.” It leaves red flags we can’t afford to ignore.
Here's the key missing piece to the megahit show "Adolescence"
The Netflix series about online radicalization is a stunning work of art—but neglects a vital aspect of the violence.

It’s fitting this episode where I speak to Brian Goldstone about his book “There Is No Place for Us” lands on Labor Day weekend. As he notes, “All of the people in this book, they are working and working and working some more. But their wages … are not enough to afford this basic human necessity.”
@flyingwithsara.bsky.social said to me, about my book: "Before we can fix the crisis, we have to FEEL the crisis."

I talked to @theintercept.com about the organized abandonment of poor & working families — and why homelessness must be faced in its devastating reality, not softened into abstraction.
The Housing Hunger Games
“How extremely profitable all of this precarity has become.” Author Brian Goldstone speaks to Laura Flynn on working and homelessness in today’s America.

Rocket Lab Neutron, if it delivers the numbers in its design, may actually be far more competitive than SpaceX Starship. A reusable Neutron then has a real chance of becoming the most cost-efficient launch vehicle given its far lighter than steel structures and much less stressed Archimedes engines.
Starship is “not trying to revolutionise the space industry; if it were, its concept, design, and testing plan would be totally different. Instead, the entire project is optimised to fleece as much money from the US taxpayer as possible, and as such, that is all it will ever do.”
