YIMBYism, Jewish stuff, and the intersection of the two
Completely agree. I'm grateful it passed and the Council demonstrated political will, but it could have been so much more.

Natali fought hard for the UBCP. Compromises had to be made to get this plan through, but she was always a steadfast advocate for it. that's what you're missing.

I see something similar with NIMBYism. No one (well, almost no one) wants to believe that they are personally contributing to the housing shortage by blocking projects, requesting one more study, etc. It's easier to blame a developer, "corporate landlords," the list goes on.

and yet it happens all the time. Last year, my neighbors and i were doxxed by another neighbor for requesting sidewalks on routes to transit, shops, schools.

We are indeed blessed to be here--and my faith tells me that we should share those blessings. Thank you for articulating that, and I'm sorry for your loss.

I'm so sorry this happened to you and Drizzy, Dan. I'm glad you're both okay and I'm glad you had the strength to write this essay.

My view: tikkun olam, as its understood in my Jewish circles, is volunteerism and certain progressive values. It gives you the warm and fuzzies.

Welcoming the stranger is harder. It requires you to leave your comfort zone. But it's what Gd demands of us.

a lot of my fellow yidden feel totally comfortable upholding segregationist policies in their own neighborhoods, but will put a "hate has no home here" sign in their yard

Thank you for your leadership!

soooo frustrating. I hate the anti-prosperity attitude. this county and state has given me so much--i want to see it grow and thrive and continue to support others!

This whole quote is crazy. "There aren't enough jobs in the county to justify building new housing" Okay, what are you doing as CE to bring in new jobs? This is not a good situation to be in!

this is certainly the attitude of my NIMBY neighbors, many of whom had their heyday around that time

Lotta people who say they care deeply about climate change are also entirely unwilling to even consider taking away parking spots to create bike lanes, let alone give up their SUVs!
