Anyway, this is your regular reminder that my Signal is available in my bio, and that if you have something you want publicly known I'm happy to chat with you about it and come up with a plan.

Not so that I can break it -- breaking news isn't my profession anymore! -- but so it can get out there.
For the next 45 laps this is an Oliver Bearman fan account.

Congress wrote into the law that someone who overstays a visa while applying for asylum is not considered to be accruing “unlawful presence,” but it didn’t explicitly say those people couldn’t be arrested and detained — because it was presumed that they wouldn’t be. Well, Trump is doing it.
We came to LA as refugees from the USSR in 1991. Life wasn’t easy, but we persevered and, I dare say, came to contribute something of worth to this nation.

Had I experienced the following when I was a boy, I don’t know what would have become of me.

Okay I do appreciate the Spirit holding off an aggressive attack in the first half but I do need them to score at SOME point, some of us also have a race to watch tonight

I get what the broadcast directors are doing, but surely there are also women rooting for the Spirit at this game.

A revelation from some grant applications in 2006; a few key breaks from prominent writers (starting with @attackerman.bsky.social who will never get the credit he deserves for launching my and @jamellebouie.net ‘s careers in the same weekend); [structural factors forcing me out of journalism]
What’s the lore behind choosing your career path ?

Hi, vroom expert here! This is not funny. Ferrari drivers only do this when they’re in extreme distress.
Saw this over on the other site. Absolutely phenomenal graphic. Much meme potential.

The Trump administration has a new mass deportation playbook.

We’ve seen it in Los Angeles, Chicago, and Charlotte. And it’s coming to more cities.

After 27 years in the U.S., Don Lupe was detained by ICE at his New Jersey workplace. His family and community fought to bring him home. His story shows the quiet, devastating toll these detentions take on families, and the growing rise of raids at NJ bonded warehouses. @documentedny.bsky.social

I’ve been REALLY reticent to use the term “disappear” to refer to people arrested by immigration enforcement, even when there’s now routinely a lag of hours or days before loved ones know where they’re being held.

This is an actual literal disappearance. www.ms.now/msnbc/news/i...

Vicente Ventura Aguilar got picked up last month, but his family doesn’t know if he’s dead or alive. ICE says he’s not in their system, so they say they can’t help.

I’m always so conflicted about talking about this in public but: I am 100 percent certain that being medicated for ADHD successfully inoculated me against trying illegal stimulants.
Wait until they hear about the drug cascade that untreated ADHD tends to lead to.

The Weberian argument for bureaucratic vs charismatic governance is not at heart about the idea of using a state to accomplish humanitarian policy goals but about _prevention of corruption_
one thing i want to emphasize is these "illiberal" and "postliberal" authoritarians are just thieves and crooks! trump is thief. orban is a thief. putin is the biggest thief of them all.
wrote about the president’s flagrant and destructive corruption in a column that references street fighter, the simpsons, machiavelli, and a host of revolutionary-era americans (gift link)
