I think of it as post-1940 or so but your narrative is also very plausible

Blanks and I found ourselves trying to explain this the other week to some poor soul detailed to Baltimore from West Virginia

“No we PROMISE not all East Coast drivers are like that”

I prefer to think of the hair as pink because it means I am THE MOOOOOST BISEXUAL

Okay but now I’m wondering if Margaret Thwackher would be a very good or very bad roller derby name

I always use crosswalks in DC. I realized very early on that any given DC driver probably has a law degree and would beat me in court.

Look. Those of us who favor black understand we live more closely with death. It’s kind of the whole thing.

The only alternative is that it was on All Things Considered or — even less likely — Morning Edition.

My personal impossible quest is finding the New York Times article that my memory INSISTS exists, from the early 2000s (potentially very late 1990s), in which officials in northern Japan blamed a spate of bear attacks on bears who had migrated from Russia.

I feel like too many people don’t also think about how if they are PRODUCING via AI and also CONSUMING via AI that is a doubly-lossy process!!

Oooh was he a good live show?

Oh I totally forgot that one. It’s very good. My fave track on that is Lipstick Vogue tho.

I haven’t been tracking his career since his absolutely unhinged (complimentary) covers album a while back

Novels have been my primary leisure activity for the last couple of years. Thank heavens for the DCPL's e-reader selection!

Finally: if you are okay with Fiction That Will Rip Your Heart Out And Stomp On It, and you haven’t read The Wrong End Of The Telescope, I recommend you do that. (I don’t usually like fiction in that genre but this one was so sharply observed and beautifully written that I fell in love with it.)

In the “genre” tent I have been recommending Ada Palmer’s Terra Ignota quartet to everyone I know (starts with Too Like The Lightning); there is a lot going on allusion-wise in the writing but it’s all earned in the worldbuilding/characters, so you may or may not like it.

I REALLY enjoyed Katabasis but some friends who’ve actually been through academia did not, so caveat lector. You Dreamed of Empires is a sly little fever dream. I always love Louise Erdrich so Future Home of the Living God was a hit for me, but my fave of hers will always be Night Watchman.

I’ll be honest: from here on Nationalslandia, where we just hired a 32-year-old manager without MLB experience to join our 35-year-old new GM, Maddon’s comments kind of resonated on the baseball side. Because it’s starting to look like owners are hiring pushovers to line up for lockout.
