In two separate trials relating to the same protest, one group was able to use the "reasonable excuse" statutory defence of public nuisance that included stating agreed climate facts to the jury and were acquitted and the other group were not permitted to use the defence and were convicted.

Most people in NI are really not surprised by the Soldier F outcome - but this was no show trial or witch hunt. The judge excoriated the soldiers' conduct, but because of a passing of time caused by extreme state failings, could not convict. That is the scandal. These headlines are grotesque:

Vagueness in these proposals - which appear to expressly target Palestine protests - is worrying & on face inconsistent with human rights law.

Freedom of expression includes the right to shock, offend & disturb.

So protest might shock, offend, or disturb. That’s ok.
