Farewell to Penelope, my long-lived cat. She was born on April 19, 2003 in my sister’s barn. For reference, the Iraq war began later that year, “Friends” was still making new episodes, and Michael Jordan retired from basketball. Penelope died yesterday at age 21 years and 8 months.

I pulled his stash of toys out from under the bed.
