Composer and musician with an unhealthy interest in the macabre depths of UK/US politics. Mostly tweeting snark about the Tories. Also dabbles in programming.
i’m sure an AI can write hit songs. But they can also write dross (in greater quantities), and they have no way of being able to tell which is which.

Maybe because the policy would inevitably be the smokescreen for a hard-right program of state dismantlement

when I worked for a company that organised schools’ conferences, the model was: get one famous speaker, to sell tickets, give them whatever they ask for, pad it out with academics / other subject-relevant people on a couple of hundred quid each. not much consideration of how good any of them were.

The UK’s online tax return is a piece of cake, and the lightness of the administrative burden for freelancers is quite miraculous. Sadly, no freelancer realises this until they’ve tried living abroad.

decongestant nose spray, applied just before take off and landing. And then try and get them to suck on something. that will counteract the air pressure changes in the ear which are the main source of discomfort.

i mean anybody could see that johnson was cooked. the precise mechanism used to remove him was less important than the near-unanimous recognition that his time was up

True.. but maybe without the possibility of cabinet resignations, MPs would become more assertive out of necessity?
March 28, 2025 at 2:43 PM
Had the cabinet resignations under Boris not been possible, or not been sufficient to unseat him, I’m sure MPs would have found another way to remove him - eg via a commons no-confidence vote. So i’m not sure external cabinet appts would grant the PM a great deal of extra security.

The tests are about measuring skills, not intelligence. They give cross-country and historic comparisons, which can yield insights about effective policies, and help direct resources to where they are most needed. Trump is pulling funding for these kinds of surveys, so this might be the last round.

If you want to include an ossia staff with the sounding pitch, we won’t complain
March 1, 2025 at 9:23 PM
If it’s just the odd note (like a detuned open string), then sounding pitch is ok. But for anything requiring the fingers to move on the string, it needs to be at played pitch. To avoid any ambiguity, i’d use string indications / hooked brackets liberally.

I think he would have made more of those distinctions clear in 2016. Now, i think the situation is more blurred, and he’s come to believe at least some of his own propaganda.

when i get bow shakes in delicate passages like that, i find it’s often caused by tension elsewhere in the body. I start with a deep breath, relax shoulders, then arms.

I frequently help other composers get their music down on paper and all correct for performers. Shoot me a DM if you’d like me to look at your score and make the necessary adjustments.
