The whole thing feels half-baked from an administration that is out of ideas at how to get people to come downtown.

If we are going to have a pedestrian mall downtown, Nicollet is the least disruptive street to convert. That being said what is a pedestrian mall supposed to achieve. There’s hardly any ground level places on Nicollet, especially east of 6th. That’s not going to magically change.

I know some people have convinced themselves that this all about eliminating poor people downtown, but that doesn’t pass the smell test. I’ve seen no evidence that moving busses to another street would decrease ridership. The same people would be downtown. They’d just be on a different street.

I have to walk 6 blocks between my office and the bus stop (which isn’t on Nicollet, and if it was it would be even further).

The reality is moving busses from one street to another isn’t that disruptive. We have busses on many streets downtown. Sure some folks might end up further from their destination, but they could just as easily end up closer. You don’t know where folks are going to/coming from.

That’s also only true if they are already registered to vote, which would imply people pretending to be actual Minneapolis residents (something that doesn’t happen). If they were same-day registering, they have to provide supporting documentation proving residency.

It really is an extra punch in the stomach that we’re losing her voice in the senate.

She’s been pretty open in individual conversations about her other choices. I don’t think it’s a secret, but I don’t think knowing who is 3rd and 2nd on her ballot is as relevant as the fact that she’s supporting all three.
