Can’t wait for the first BAR meeting to review one of these on the downtown mall. 🫣

Is Cville actually getting high platforms or just rebuilt low platforms? Is this spelled out in a document somewhere?

If your goal is to create more market rate housing AND more income-restricted housing, IZ alone has iffy results. I’m glad that Cville is looking into tax abatement strategies to pair with our IZ policy.

The financial situation of NYC transit is bad, even with congestion pricing revenue. I believe many of Mamdani’s tax proposals require state action and Gov Hochul has already said it’s not happening. I’m excited about his mayoralty but think some of his big proposals are probably going nowhere.

There’s also an element of bitterness from transit pros (this is a confession more than an accusation) who spend their lives fighting for better transit (and funding!) but all the cool people are focused on the new shiny object.

It’s the issue of the moment and the clicks will follow. The attention machine demands free buses hot takes! The NYC-based talking heads I know about aren’t rehashing it as much.

Luckily, he will inherit some smart, thoughtful transit policy people when he takes office who will provide him with a clear view of his options. One of the most refreshing things about Mamdani is his openness to ideas. I’m excited to see what he does for transportation.

I think many critics are engaging from a productive stance of “we want you to succeed but this one initiative isn’t a great idea.” If he manages to raise the revenue (unlikely due to the state/city issues), the money for free buses would make a greater impact spent on other transit initiatives.

it’s actually a genuinely insane feeling to sit on the patio listening to the military helicopter over my neighborhood because the genocide man is getting a private tour of our local plantation

I wondered if it was repealed or if the new code simply superseded it. I assume it probably doesn’t matter because council we enact a zoning code soon but I wonder what would happen if someone applied for permits to build a 20 story apartment building downtown.

I’m kind of bummed that this decision didn’t result in no zoning. It would have been a fun experiment.
