I'll say it once and I'll say it again. If you think artists are just "naturally talented", you're deeply wrong. The only difference between you and us is that we kept trying when it didn't come out like we hoped.
You can always make art yourself. There's no bad time to start, you can start now.

Okay, big breath...

After more than two years since we published our last documentary on the topic, it's time we returned to Disco Elysium:

Video games have a serious crediting problem, but unions can help

"Being properly credited on a title is essential to our individual careers as workers, and also just general fairness. Being able to say, 'Hey, I worked on this,' is important to show the work you did and not undercut labor."

How are unions working to fix the industry's issue with credits?

I paused playing The Alters for a while and have finally come back to it.

I really want to finish this but the moment to moment gameplay is actually so not engaging. Constantly feels like a grind (possibly intentionally), but it really isn’t fun most of the time.

And above all, you let life defeat you. All the gifts your parents gave you, all the love and patience of your friends, you drowned in a neurotoxin. You let misery win. And it will keep on winning till you die -- or overcome it.

Omg they’re finally taking down the scaffolding around my building just in time for summer to be over and I won’t need to look out my windows anyways.

noclip but instead of filming high-production value documentaries about great games and studios, we film high-production value previews of upcoming games from smaller, underserved development teams making cool stuff but with zero marketing budget

It's absurd and dystopian that payment processors get to decide what we can and can't see on the internet.

That companies like Visa and Mastercard can use their enormous size to bully companies into taking stuff offline - based on the reactionary politics of a small group.

I didn’t realise Alters could actually die. RIP Miner.

Ubisoft said today that its new subsidiary (the spinoff entity announced earlier this year) will be helmed by two co-CEOs: company veteran Christophe Derennes and Charlie Guillemot, son of Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot. Keeping it in the family!

Oh, and Develop was good fun this year. Having an actual pass and going to talks made me realise how little free time there actually is so I’m kinda gutted I didn’t get to see more familiar faces, but was still a lovely time!

I started frying up some broccoli and then a thing crawled out of the broccoli the moment it hit the frying pan, and I’m no longer in the mood for broccoli or food in general.

just to keep banging the same drum: almost all the people who can eke out some sort of living doing indie stuff have a strong support network that allowed them to fail/practice/build up a name for years before "making it"

It's parents & partners all the way down
Babes. I mean this with the utmost kindness and respect, but funding your own projects or monetizing your social following or „just go indie“ is really, REALLY hard. I have a partner that’s employed and we have no dependents and no dept, and I still can’t make it lol

These cases are the 0.0000001%
Kim, if tobert foxxington built undertale on his own in a cave with a box of scraps (gamemaker), you too can still work in games. If you really want it, you gotta pursue it, ya gotta believe!
