Nine months after the shooting, the suspect had his first court appearance today and agreed to an interview after. Hermelindo Ramos-Ramos tells me it was all a mistake, that Mario Juarez fired first, and Juarez confirmed that to me today.

When Juarez was involved in a wild shootout outside his home June 9th of last year, the feds decided to move up the raids on the homes of Thao, Jones and both of the Duongs and the Cal Waste Solutions headquarters.

According to the federal corruption indictment, the Duongs bribed local officials including former Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao and her partner, Andre Jones, to order $300k shelters and for other favors. It appears Mario Juarez is “co-conspirator 1”, now a key witness in the federal case.

Mario Juarez was a mover and shaker in East Bay politics, a founder of Evolutionary Homes that tried to sell homeless shelters made out of shipping containers. His partners in that venture, before it went south, were David and Andy Duong who also own California Waste Solutions.

He's accused of felony grand theft, of after stealing more than $950 of goods from the Macy's there.

Adult Probation in San Francisco has already petitioned the court to have his probation revoked. Judge Chan said in January that Sonza will have to serve 3 years, 8 months if he reoffends.

In January, Judge Bruce E. Chan said, in effect, this time would be different and the he would make Sonza his personal project, requiring him to check in regularly. Chan again let Sonza out.

Sonza is back in jail, this time in Santa Clara County.

The public official has agreed to testify under oath.

Thomas Mazzucco, an attorney for Corpus tells the I-Team, while they wanted the injunction, "It appears from the ruling that the Court understands that there are questions regarding the Board's bias and took the approach of waiting to decide this question once the issue is ripe. ..."

The sheriff wanted an injunction to stop the vote, arguing that some supervisors had shown bias and prejudice in their handling of the issues.

This echoes Mercury News editorial board who called Measure A "a power grab". The Merc wrote that Corpus should be removed because of many issues that have arisen, but that it "should be done directly by voters at the ballot box or through legal action that provides for due process."
