I can only take comfort in the knowledge that the US must have some sort of rigorously thought out exit strategy and post-coup plan, otherwise they’d be crazy to pull something like this.

How many steps away are we from “You can’t disconnect or block our product because you’ll hurt its widdle feelings”?

I don’t know why this is funny but it is and now a need the whole Christmas album.

Lyrics would work, though, if my last delta experience is anything to go by:

“Transport, motorways, and tramlines
Starting and then stopping, taking off and landing
The emptiest of feelings, disappointed people
Clinging onto bottles
When it comes, it's so, so disappointing.”

Ah, that unique flavour of MAGAgian, bootlicking bullshit, both terrifying in its globestomping arrogance, and utterly infantile in every other way it’s possible to be infantile.

I just accidentally heard it. I can confirm that it’s worse than Ronan’s, which is quite an achievement.

Hey, I'm an average dipshit and I think all of this slop is bollocks.

Whatever smoking gun you're looking for, this ain't it.

If they start slinging around value-laden terms like "hero", "villain", "our boys" (!), etc., it's a steep and slippery slide into jingoism.

Bath thought: [immediately after the thought I wish we could stop doing discourse about trailers] If Orwell's novel smuggled a dark allegory into the form and tone of a contemporary children's story, what would it look like if someone smuggled that allegory into a modern animated kids movie?

Also, “childish” is too mild a descriptor for Trump’s full-bore sociopathy here, and he’s hardly the one to lecture others about how to conduct reasonable discourse.
December 15, 2025 at 10:12 PM
Well, it’s really the bare minimum innit: “People who disagree with me needn’t be murdered”. The kind of thing most people, in most political circles, don’t feel the need to clarify.

I moved to Shanghai, China indefinitely, for work. And it's work with children. There have obviously been police and background checks, and annual visa renewals. It's strict and bureaucratic. But I've never been asked for half of the stuff on that list.

Special mention to whoever was tasked with editing this down from the nine-hour rough cut.

An entire industry is going to be upended so that the president's rich kids can get a bit richer, and so that Benjamin Netanyahu's buddy Brett Ratner can flash his dick at the cast of Rush Hour 4 in exchange for making a reputation-(and-money?-)laundering film about Melania.

Everyone keeping up?

I thought "virtue signalling" meant something like "pretending to do good while actually just carrying on as normal", or at least "prioritising *the appearance of doing good* over the measurable goodness of your actions".

Wouldn't "vice-signalling" therefore mean *pretending* to be nasty?
December 9, 2025 at 3:13 AM
MTG didn't "see the light" or "come to her senses" or "shift left" or "become more reasonable"; she just got put into perspective by being flanked by some of the weirdest idiots to ever hold public office.

I only saw it once, and it was in 70mm at London's National Film Theatre. I can't imagine wanting to see it on a small screen, but that's my choice. The bigger issue that nobody would make LoA, or any film like it, for a small screen.
December 7, 2025 at 4:33 AM
I guess if you put your face close enough to your phone it's *as big as* it would look at the cinema.
December 7, 2025 at 4:33 AM
Exactly. It describes how a battle might descend into such chaos that rational and dispassionate decision-making might become more difficult.

It doesn't mean that the fire you started made it harder to count your killings.

Yes, Quentin. They should have cast unknown 14-year-old Austin Butler in the part.

This in the same week he named Midnight in Paris as one of the 10 best films of the 21st century?

Why do people keep listening to, and reporting on, this guy's opinions as if they count for something?

Knowing him, this is probably what he thinks birth control is.
