Yep. It's deeply, deeply lame shit in a film that's already full of it. But it speaks to the fad of giving all characters roots and personal stakes in their own adventures, focusing on what they are and where they're from instead of what they do.

No, I think this Bond is a patriot, and I can take or leave that side of the character anyway, tbh. But the rest of what you're saying is wholly correct. I do think the troubled Craig Bond did cross over with a lot of people though
