They called them Near Abroad Direct Action Operations, NADA Ops. The "joke" in the CalSec cafeterias, which made its way out later in the hearings was that "What does the operator say when asked if there are civilians in the area? Nada...oops!". Even decades later, Arizona didn't find it funny.

Don’t get me wrong here, I like Portishead, but when I hear them I immediately think, “Oh, (insert most old roommates) is having sex.”

Even if we assume it comes with good intentions, I fail to see how this relentless push to obscure the fundamental asymmetry of American politics by abstract equivocation and empty “both sides” rhetoric could possibly lead this country to a better place. We need to face reality.
The answer to this seemingly reasonable point is obvious:

Republican leaders, including the president, actively incite, praise, and reward violence.

And while some online leftists might do the same, Democratic leaders do not. It's a fundamental asymmetry that French is obscuring.

Just tried watching Ezra Klein’s latest NYT podcast episode on how the U.S. got to this point where vaccines are so politicized.

It’s pretty clear that Klein and his guests—David Wallace Wells and Rachael Bedard—really do not understand why/how the political right turned on vaccines.

*sigh* 😔
The precise moment when and where in recent weeks America crossed that invisible line from democracy into authoritarianism can and will be debated by future historians, but it’s clear that the line itself has been crossed. www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/america-ti...

Every now and then it hits me that this isn’t just about 1 inhuman act or another, but a bigger picture.

That the entire democratic experiment in America is falling apart in front of our eyes. It’s historic in that sense. Which then makes me wonder why all media stories aren’t framed this way.

When you're watching sports, often you'll choose a team to root for.
You expect your team to play to win, or at least to play. If they don't, you will probably stop rooting for them.
