In Southampton yesterday there was a national call (via Turning Point, Tommy Robinson, etc) for an anti-migrant rally.
Very happy that even at short notice that march was outnumbered by about 50%.

Although not yet available to read (January 2026!), very happy to see our book on political trust online. Co-edited with @mfair.bsky.social and available open access, we think it'll be a useful addition to the field.

There has been an arson attack on a hotel housing asylum seekers in Southampton.
When, rather than if, someone dies, there HAS to be consequences for those who stoked these flames.

I spoke to @newstatesman.com on the results, where my main point from the paper was that there is *no* modelling strategy that shows a positive effect for Labour.

Anyway, it's good to see that Labour's courting of the right is starting to yield dividends.

Again, inspired by bsky.app/profile/timn..., I looked at the submissions/desk rejects for the year at @jeppjournal.bsky.social.
Submissions are up exactly 100 on last year so far (200 since 2022), and desk reject stands at around 64%,up from 55% in 2022.

Of those who accept, the average time taken is almost exactly on the usual deadline (30 days), but there's quite a lot of variation at both.
This includes R&Rs, so a lot of the quick ones are from those -- though some do return first reviews within a week or two.

Maybe surprisingly, a majority accept the invite. The declines are almost the same between the two journals (JEPP has an 'unavailable' option too).
Just to say that the 'no response' is the worst, because it can delay things. Please respond, even (especially) if it's to say 'no'!
