here's hoping mousie made a soft landing and recovery and is not completely heartbroken that its dream of unlimited snacks did not come true.

as i picked things out of the cube, which i had tilted so he could make its escape, i see the mouse go rocketing out of the cube, across the deck, and ... sailing into the air over the driveway. friends, that mouse launched itself like it was a circus performer in a cannon.

sure enough, as i start removing hamster snacks, a field mouse and i come face to face. and mousie was shocked, shocked! that i had found its hiding spot. (busted!) took the cube outside to start emptying it and freeing the mouse.

took a while to determine it was coming from one of the storage cubes (the fabric folding type) on the shelf behind me. i checked and at first didn't see anything, but on the second look realized that a package had been nibbled through on the corner.

hopefully you're finding some small joys as well - and i hear you on the zip code. took me months to memorize the old one. this one clicked, but now i don't know where i have / haven't changed the info.

i remember reading a statistic a few years back about how often other countries amend their constitutions to adapt to, oh, i dunno, evolving needs? and somehow ours has calcified. (i say somehow, but there are clearly reasons.)
