Counting down the 1000 greatest rock and roll songs of all time and making other lists of my favorite tunes and albums. Rock and roll is my favorite genre but I truly like a little bit of everything, from classical and cumbia to honky-tonk and highlife.
This is the top 20 from the year-end Billboard Hot 100 list for 1974. I doubt anyone on any side of the poptimism debates would say music from 1974 sucked. Does this list effectively spotlight 1974's greatness? It probably sucked repeatedly hearing the bad songs when you didn't want to.

I love the fonts, colors, and design of those greatest hits albums from A&M Records in the 1960s. Sure, the music they had inside could be a bit fuddy-duddy sometimes, but it was also all relentlessly pleasant. Herb Alpert’s pop jazz stylings make me feel like I am on game show while on vacation.

Slowly Type O Negative is getting more critical recognition; there was a Pitchfork Sunday Review of Bloody Kisses a few years back. But October Rust was always my favorite of theirs, a totally unique goth metal record that a lot more music dorks would love if they knew it was in their wheelhouse.

It's getting lost in all the other worthy discourses but some non-political aspects to Mamdani's win that should be further discussed:
- How well he used social media to disseminate his messages; so many Dems take this for granted!
- How good his campaign's graphic design was (look at those fonts!)

What’s a poster you had up in your room growing up? Well, I listened to a lot of ska-punk.

The only Rage CD I have, bought from Nobody Beats the Wiz the day it came out on April 16th, 1996. My other Rage albums are on dubbed cassettes. I wonder how much angrier their music would have been had they known President Trump was eventually coming. Still a cathartic and bracing listen. #cdfriday

Still have a good amount of the alternative rock CDs I bought when I was first getting into music, like the debut Candlebox album. Perceived at the time as grunge also-rans even though they were also from Seattle. Not earth-shaking but a pretty solid hard rock record. #CDFriday
