Getting a job in game development is not as easy as just learning the craft, getting an interview, and landing a position...

It comes with so much emotional burden that I felt the need to make a video about it ❤️‍🩹

Do you have anything exciting that you want to share today? It doesn't have to be big, I just want to see what you're up to 😁

In my case, I'm pretty proud of the hangman-like react web I've recently coded

If you are a game developer and you're running low on budget, you need to when one of these...

This is my most powerful tool and it only costs $10 🤑

Let's say that you want to start on game development this year. 🎮

If we were having a conversation about it over brunch, this would be exactly the advice I'd give you.

I know how crazy it sounds to be a game developer and still have time for other hobbies, exercise, relationships, or (God forbid) resting.

But I feel that if we protect our most valuable resource—time—we can make video games without feeling stressed.

🎯 Feeling stuck with your projects?

I was too. Turns out, my motivations were all messed up. Here’s what I learned (and how I’m fixing it) 👇

If you are a leader (or have someone leading you, really) "Nine Lies About Work" is a must.

I have yet to find a book that covers more real and to-the-point problems in collaborative work environments.

🎮 Being a game developer is all about... messing up.

I’ve deleted databases, broken games, and made NPCs look like ghosts. 😅

For 2 years, I feared losing my job every day. But here’s the twist… I wouldn’t trade those mistakes for anything.
Why? 👇

They share research on what makes great managers excel. Spoiler: There’s no “one-size-fits-all” formula.

Want to know what sets them apart? Here’s where it gets interesting…

Instead of working harder to “fit the mold,” they leaned into their unique strengths.

✈️ Quick story: On a flight from Madrid to Edinburgh, I tried distracting myself from my fear of flying by reading Nine Lies About Work.

Here’s the idea from Chapter 4 that completely flipped how I see work and life: 🧵👇

Over my first two years as a game developer, I made so many mistakes that I thought I was about to get fired (and I eventually did). 😭

Today I want to share the biggest five and the lessons I learnt from them.

If you stay, set boundaries.

A simple, assertive 6-step framework:
1️⃣ State the issue
2️⃣ Explain why it's a problem
3️⃣ Ask for what you need
4️⃣ State the consequences of no change
5️⃣ Highlight the benefits of change
6️⃣ Ask for their input

Activate 🚀

Now, do you:
• Fight for change in your company?
• Or decide to leave?
• Use this decision filter:

Does it suck? Can you change it?
If not, is the effort to change it worth it?
If the answer is NO, quitting may be the best move.

🚨 Game developers, let's talk about crunch culture.

Why do we feel pressure to overwork? Is it internal, external, or both?

And more importantly—how do we fight back without getting burned out? 🧵👇

Being the ONLY one who's not crunching can be the worst in game development. 😨

Dealing with a company that encourages crunch culture can be quite a conundrum.

Today, I want to try to disentangle it a little bit.

The past few months have been a rollercoaster. 🎢

Unemployed, in rehab, and totally off social media. But guess what? It led me back to something that’s changed my life: journaling.

It’s simple, powerful, and backed by science. Here’s why you should try it too. 📝👇

I've been recently thinking a lot about purpose in work...

Have you ever considered what's the meaning behind what you do, and how that relates to what you value, enjoy, and the value it provides to the world?

Deep I know, but here's a meme to lower the stakes

Beware of energy debt ⚠️
Crunch isn’t just “extra hours.”

2 hours of crunch today = 4 hours lost tomorrow due to fatigue, frustration, and burnout.

Protect your future self by managing your workload wisely.
February 12, 2025 at 2:02 PM
First, mindset shift:

• Acknowledge your responsibility in the situation (even if it’s imposed).
• Accept that you can only control your actions & thoughts.
• Think of yourself as a ship in a storm—you can't control the wind, but you can steer. 🚢
