After a brief (14-month) delay, the premiere issue of Odd Obsessions arrives on the fiftieth anniversary of the sinking of SS Edmund Fitzgerald.

What started as an effort to launch an issue of this something like once a month quickly spiraled into chaos, partially due to the branching paths of subject matter but mostly the general state of the...

Josh (@tesseractcinema.bsky.social) and my friendship has orbited independent theaters in every city we've lived in. His return to Chicago to build a space that offers community is something I'm excited to be involved in from afar and more excited to be an audience member in every chance I get.
A Micro-Cinema In Pilsen? Fundraising Underway To Open An Independent Movie Theater

Gunn's Superman is a joy. It's ambitious and messy in the same way Clark is in the era we meet him. A rare occasion where I wish we had another hour to hang out. I left the theater wanting a feature-length Daily Planet screwball romcom more than anything.

Blessed by Los Angeles' theater programmers who brought the absolute heat in 2024.

Multiple Mann's, a few horror marathons, Speed Racer, some Jackie Chan, Stephen Chow, Kiyoshi Kurosawa, Fire Walk with Me, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Dawson City: Frozen Time, and a Speed reunion, to name just a few.

Convinced my dad to see THE MATRIX in theaters using the fact we had talked about it in Sunday school because it was a 'metaphor' but conveniently left out all the wire-fu wonderment that I needed to experience.

I was 9.

We returned in 2002 to watch the sequels.
Did you watch R rated movies before you were 17? If you did, do you remember what your first R rated movie was?

Mine was Starship Troopers. Not sure exactly how old I was but I couldn't have been older than 11 based on where we lived

Working my way through 2024 releases I missed in theaters and was shook by THELMA. Sweet and sincere with an honesty that warmed the soul. Lovely performances, Squibb and Hechinger's moments especially got me, and some stylistic direction from Margolin to boot.
