I'm a speculative fiction author.

The fortune cookie said I have a charming way with words.

I don’t sing. That’s the other guy.

Coming soon*: THE REVIVIAD, an ambitious new fiction series. If you like character-focused stories, expansive worlds, adventure, and humor, I think you'll dig it.

As it develops, I'll share updates, thoughts, and looks behind the scenes here on Bluesky.

*Depending on your definition of "soon."
I gave up on the whole concept of Black Friday when I got into marketing 20 years ago. Between jacking the regular prices, keeping things on permanent "pseudo-sale," and screwing with sale prices throughout the year, there is not, and never has been, a true "best of the year" deal on Black Friday.
Irrationally angry that Wirecutter’s “best Black Friday deals” roundup includes insulting shit like $5 off a $30 Tupperware set and $5 off $43 plain glass vases. Fuck you.

Is there a better feeling than waking up at 3:30 in the morning and noticing your 16 year old has snuck out of the house to go see his girlfriend?

YES. LOTS.

I know, I know: never buy Magic the Gathering cards on Amazon. But the price was too good on a box of All Will Be One. They sent not a box but a single loose pack. A refund is forthcoming and I get to keep the pack, so I opened it.

I’m not mad.

When I was a kid, I was led to believe that ring-around-the-collar would be a much bigger problem when I grew up.

Right when #starbucks workers are set to go on strike, the company sends me an email to let me know I still have $12.15 in my account. I've never gotten an email like that from them, and I haven't used the account in over a year. Funny how they need me to know NOW about that money, huh?

Huh. Shohei is human, after all.

If we don't get a mash-up called "Welcome to Derry, Girls" I will be absolutely livid.

They've done almost $1.7M as I type this, and it's only been going on for 7 or 8 hours. Who knows if they'll break Sanderson's record of $41.7M, but there's a full month to go.

The gaslighting from Southwest Airlines in their new TV ads is astonishing. Acting like everyone was begging for assigned seating? Seriously? Few who fly Southwest want it that badly, if at all.

I'm a Red Sox guy for life, but I do enjoy watching a Blue Jays game because they'll occasionally play a Rush song as they go to or from a commercial break. Respect.

Okay, settle down. It's just groceries. You drive like that, all my stuff's gonna fall out the back.

The absolute fucking stones on these people. “Hey, sorry our service went down. Give us $25 a month just in case, you know, it ever happens again. Pinky swear we won’t do it purpose.”

What kind of mafia shakedown bullshit is this?

I grew up in the 80s. Calling us the "radical left" sounds like a compliment.

"I think people should have access to affordable health care."

"Radical, dude!"

"I KNOW, RIGHT?"

Why are the story authors and titles listed *anywhere*? No source I've checked will tell me who's included in the book.

After three now. Still waiting for the rapture. Getting impatient.

8:18 am Central. Still no rapture. Did they nail down a time for this thing, or...?

I turned 15 in 1990, so a lot of my tastes in music, movies, and media are rooted in the 90s. And it's weird trying to explain the 90s to my kids, who are as close to the 90s as I was to the 60s when I was their age—and that was like ancient history to me.
