There was a strain of conservative thinking during the Reagan Admin's glorification of the private sector which amounted to the Divine Right of Corporations. Capitalism was doing God's work in ending poverty, so any govt obstruction to their work was a sin. Same old, same old.

I still remember the colloquium at which you reported that 90s teens thought the 70s were so cool, and those of us who had been teenagers in the 70s just broke out laughing in dismay. But yeah, 70s paranoid thrillers were a nice subgenre. Also: the Ramones.

I teach Do the Right Thing all the time and it continues to have a great impact. Sunset Boulevard also works, especially if students have been taught some silent films already.
