A reminder that, in politics, perfect is the enemy of good. You probably won’t align perfectly with anyone. Look for parties aiming for net good for the community.

I know it’s winter & cold & no one wants an election right now but we have got to persevere and get to the polls

Decide which platform you align with the most and, for heavens sake, actually vote. Vote for the future of free & accessible healthcare, vote for the climate, vote for supporting the people living in encampments all around the province with limited access to services and housing.

A personal opinion: this election is a blatant power grab and the Ontario PCs think we’re stupid enough to fall for it - they currently have a majority government. They don’t need a stronger mandate. Don’t let the Trump/Tariff talk fool you. Look at your local candidates ⤵️

In Canada, all provinces have the first-past-the-post or plurality system, meaning that the candidate winning the most votes in each electoral district is the winner, regardless if this is less than 50 per cent of the votes cast. (Per OLA.org)

If you are a liberal or NDP voter, it’s time to step up & get out to the polls. Polling stations are often very close to you, in a local school or community centre, and listed on your ballot (you will get in the mail), along with locations and times for advanced voting.

The current conservative provincial government has pushed through the sale of Ontario Place, creation of Highway 413, & withheld federal funding from healthcare & housing. They have also spent $615m taxpayer dollars on putting alcohol in corner stores, amongst MANY other things.

In the last ON provincial election only 43% of eligible voters turned up to the polls & the Conservatives formed a majority provincial government bc they’re good at mobilizing their base of supporters to vote. This means it’s MUCH easier to pass legislation uncontested.

A reminder: in Canada, provincially, we vote for MPPs (Members of Provincial Parliament) & the party with the most elected MPPs forms government for 4 years. We do NOT directly vote for premier in the Canadian system.

Also a reminder of what Provincial government looks after:

I’m covering US Nats for my friend who’s on mat leave!

(I’ve never been to US Nats before, and frankly the state of US-CAN relations right now is causing moderate to high panic constantly 👍🏼)

OTOH, I will be side-eyeing the Canada Post execs with their massive salaries & judging the big couriers for raising prices to capitalize on the gap in the postal service, rending it unsustainable for me to ship letter mail with them.

Nothin gets me riled up more than injustice & corporate greed.
