This is an excellent discussion about something I think about all the time. I wanted to highlight 2 points:

It’s often easier and less time consuming to do more: ie just book the test, give the antibiotics, rather than spend time explaining why it’s unlikely to be helpful. HCWs are time pressured
From cutting down antibiotics to reducing lab tests & scans @taralamont.bsky.social & #THISfellows Heather Cassie, @clairehastings.bsky.social and @janekohara.bsky.social discuss why it can be hard to accept that less may be better in healthcare. Listen now ths.im/3YZBKlM

Declining census response rates mean entire communities are becoming statistically invisible: “When people vanish from data, they vanish from policy. When certain groups are systematically undercounted – often minorities, rural communities or poorer people – they become invisible to policymakers.”

I hope we all agree that it’s vital to involve patients & public in healthcare improvement. But there isn’t always clarity on how to best do so in a meaningful way. This case study sets out how we worked in partnership with maternity service users to co-design inclusive & practical improvements.
How can we meaningfully involve patients and the public in healthcare improvement? We used a flexible, principled approach that enabled a wide range of women to shape a programme aimed at improving the quality and safety of maternity care. Full paper ths.im/4li8MaC THIS Summary: ths.im/4l421c8

‘Change moves at the speed of trust.’ I’m reminded daily how true this is.

All time invested in building & maintaining trust is time well spent.

Gloss over trust at your peril & watch the pace of work drop, costs & energy use increase & change stagnate.

This starts with us trusting others.
