I loved that head-nod too

People peeved at the Lord Byron quote at the end of Frankenstein, instead of something written by Mary Shelley … Look - the two are just inexorably linked. That in itself is such a profound commentary to mirror the story!

Even ‘Byron: a Life in Letters’ begins with a Mary Shelley epigraph!

Mary Shelley - then a teenage girl - *invented* modern science-fiction by writing the first non-religious creationist myth in FRANKENSTEIN. That a female director hasn’t done a straight adaptation doesn’t bother me - I’m happy that they’ve seemingly preferred reinvention, inspired by the story.

Were they lovers?
… Worse.

Yes! I don’t think it lessens anything to acknowledge the men in Mary’s life who got her thinking and creating the ultimate tale of male hubris …

I think it’s a real “in” quote that head-nods how much they were begrudgingly, and then thankfully, in each other’s lives.

BUT more because Shelley’s was a story borne out of grief, repeatedly; she and Byron really shared tragedy, with the loss of Percy (whom I believe they both loved very deeply)
