My grandmother passed away in 2020 from Parkinson’s-related complications at age 88. She relied on Medicare and her meager social security payments to manage the disease for as long as she did. Without both institutions, she would have lost care and years of her life. Her life mattered.
During his marathon filibuster, Senator Cory Booker read aloud a letter from a voter diagnosed with Parkinson's disease — which Booker's late father also had — who worried about the impact the loss of Social Security benefits could have on their family.
