Ahead of the G7 summit in June, Pew Research found that citizens of G7 partners had low ratings of the US. Those citizens are consumers. While exporters are not directly associated with government positions, this will not help sales. You need look no further than Tesla for proof
I wonder if the current policy environment is making life easier or harder for American exporters?

@justinwolfers.bsky.social once again makes the important point that consumers decide whether or not to buy domestic or imports. And companies decide how much to concentrate on domestic versus international markets. Government cannot control that
What's really in the Japan trade deal?

Looking at vehicle sales, US vehicle sales were larger than EU and Japan combined. The top 2 selling models in the US were the Ford F Series and Chevy Silverado made up 8% of total US new vehicle sales. So the focus on large vehicles among the Big 3 is for domestic sales rather than exports.

As Justin Wolfers reported, the reason Japanese don’t buy American cars is not tariffs - already zero - but because the Japanese prefer small cars. So what about the EU where tariffs will be set to zero. Still unlikely to increase EU sales for the same reason. Europeans want small cars
