2025 Flucke family trick-or-treating in Port Washington. This year is the first time ever in my adult life that I’ve actually worn a costume for trick-or-treating, and I went with the most obvious choice for a Lutheran pastor. Christin said I didn’t fit the PBS kids theme. #trickortreat🎃 #halloween

Meanwhile, not related to #ELCACWA25, the Greater Milwaukee Synod ELCA is on the front page of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel today for joining a lawsuit about ICE raids in sensitive locations. Here’s Bishop Erickson’s statement, with a link to the lawsuit.

The livestream for Monday’s opening worship service at #elcacwa25 started with half an hour of music, and a little bit of crowd noise was audible. The automated transcript on the YouTube livestream is great!

I obviously miss my wife while she’s in Madison this week hosting a Serve Boldly mission trip group, but ELCA Churchwide Assembly week is a convenient time for her to be gone, as she doesn’t always share my enthusiasm for live-streamed church parliamentary procedure.

Ok, I’m legitimately impressed that I submitted my online passport renewal application on Sunday afternoon and received my new passport in the mail on Friday. Projected 4-6 week routine processing took less than a week!

As I read report after report of the harm capricious tariffs are doing to businesses, it occurs to me, perhaps one person shouldn’t be totally responsible for setting arbitrary tariffs. Maybe we could get (elect?) a group of people together to work on it, perhaps from different parts of the country.
