/9 ....I'm more inclined to say that giving the state the power to suppress speech leads to worse results and worse injustices, and less inclined to say that free debate inherently leads to better results and the truth. I'm negative-consequence rather than positive-consequence focused.

/8 I think there is a temptation, if you talk and write and debate for a living, to say that talking and writing and debating is inherently morally praiseworthy. I'm not sure it is. But that reflects a general philosophical split that I have with many people who talk about free speech:
