Nolde didn’t commit suicide. He lived to the ripe old age of 88 in 1956. He wasn’t just afraid of communism either. Nolde was a vocal antisemite long before Hitler’s ascent to power. His thinking was drenched in anti-cosmopolitanism and narrow-minded nationalism.
