China has been trying for years to break the log jam of its high savings rate. Now, with Trump's help, they may actually do it. The Great Nation Builder strikes again.
There is a simple reason why China is in the stronger position compared to the US in this trade war: It is much easier to create demand domestically in the short run than it is to rebuild the workshop of the world.

@harryszabo.bsky.social is right: The truth is the Trump administration is not conservative, they are anti-democratic & the only thing capable of beating them is a powerful movement for democratization. Campus workers have been on the front lines of these attacks. Pass Collective Bargaining NOW!

Ending the Fed's independence would rebalance trade in the most disastrous way imaginable, via a collapse of the US dollar.

The ECB's situation is totally different from the Fed's. The US exposure to tariff shocks is much greater than the EU's, who still have lower barriers with their big non-US partners: UK, China, Russia. And who is going to lower interest rates when our bondholders are getting yippy?
Trump: ‘The ECB is expected to cut interest rates for the 7th time, and yet, “Too Late” Jerome Powell of the Fed, who is always TOO LATE AND WRONG, yesterday issued a report which was another, and typical, complete “mess!” Oil prices are down, groceries (even eggs!) are down, and

Trump's plan to bail out failing coal-fired power plants will cost ratepayers more and will worsen pollution and climate change. And it's illegal.
The power industry must oppose Trump’s coal bailout ... again
The executive order threatens to conflict with existing methods for accrediting generators, assessing resource adequacy, securing sufficient generation and setting wholesale prices. It’s also illegal.

The cornerstone of Trump energy policy is to make us pay more so that we can have energy that kills more people and helps make the planet unlivable.
Trump Signs Executive Orders Aimed at Reviving U.S. Coal Industry (Gift Article)
The moves include loosening environmental rules, but it is unclear how much they can help reverse the sharp decline in coal power over the last two decades.

Beware this model legislation from Heritage, now being fed to pro-fossil state legislators and introduced as a bill in many states. It is nothing but a disguised subsidy for fossil fuel generators that kneecaps renewables, at customers' expense.

RIP. Unfortunately, the obit does not mention Clem's greatest performances. Try X Offender.
Clem Burke, whose energetic, versatile drumming provided the beat for the band Blondie as it churned out post-punk, disco and rock hits in the late 1970s and early ’80s — and then again after the band re-formed in 1997 — died on Sunday. He was 70.

He provided both the explosive percussion on hits like “Call Me” and the laid-back rhythm on the reggae-influenced “The Tide Is High.”

The countries hardest hit with tariffs are also the most intensive users of thermal coal for electricity. Their manufacturing sectors will surely double down on coal fired power now that they are being squeezed by tariffs. Forget about climate progress for at least the near future.
