Fortunately, a transition away from fossil fuels to alternatives will see the global temperature rise to slow, within a decade and then plateau (with that plateau lasting effectively centuries before a long, protracted decline towards preindustrial levels lasting millennia).

Per Archer 2008, our FF GHG emissions to-date will warm the Earth and change its climate for longer than the length of civilization to-date, even longer than nuclear waste.
