Happy Thanksgiving! Thankful for my first married Thanksgiving with @kevinrudz.bsky.social, white wine, turkey, and sausage stuffing. In that order.

People can’t buy food to eat, but people have $6.2 million laying around for “art” that will rot in a week.

But sure, we should give rich people more tax cuts…
A banana sold for $6.2 million with fees to a crypto entrepreneur at a Sotheby’s art auction on Wednesday. It became what is arguably the most expensive fruit in the world — though it will likely be tossed in a couple days. nyti.ms/3OhfnCC

Have had #Anno1800 for about a year, and out of nowhere the past three days have been an obsession.

Many of us are echoing @timothysnyder.bsky.social's lesson in On Tyranny, "Do not obey in advance.”

A no less vital admonition that deserves attn:

STAND OUT

“...without that unease, there is no freedom. The moment you set an example, the spell of the status quo is broken, and others will follow."

Yet again, disappointed.
Mia is excited about this #Bengals comeback. (So is her dad).

We need more #TransitOrientedDevelopment in Logan Square. My walk from the California stop home is full of single family houses that are obviously beyond cost prohibitiveness to bring to modern standards. We just need an equitable way to ensure that multi-generation families have a way to stay.
By my calculation, 37% of parcels within a half mile of an 'L' stop are zoned for single-family housing. That's pretty embarrassing, but some lines are much worse than others. The O'Hare Branch of the Blue Line and the Brown Line are particularly bad.

“Is liberalism finished? No, just beset and contested in new ways, and no longer a clear vanguard force in human history. Is the American age over? Almost certainly not, but if it continues, it will be as a New America of some kind…”

“We need a social vision that is as morally compelling as identity politics but does a better job of describing reality. We need a national narrative that points us to some ideal and gives each of us a noble role in pursuing it. That’s the gigantic cultural task that lies ahead.”
Opinion | Why We Got It So Wrong
It turns out a lot of people don’t behave like ambassadors from this or that group. They think for themselves in unexpected ways.

This. I’ve put books back down that had stiff spines and paper.
I love a floppy book. The pages stay where they are, no spines get cracked and it sits comfortably in your hand.

There, that’s my great insight shared for this week.

As you were.
