Your DNA’s shape matters.

Using both math and biology, UC Davis researchers built a computational model to predict R-loops, DNA-RNA hybrids tied to gene expression and disease.

Computational Model Uses Language Theory to Predict DNA Shapes That Underlie Gene Expression and Disease
Your DNA may be a string of code, but it's also made of shapes that twist and fold. By combining math and biology, UC Davis researchers are able to predict R-loops, tiny structures that influence gene expression and even diseases like cancer.

This one focuses on our recent study examining vascular Panx1 channels and their role in vascular complications during diabetic hyperglycemia.

Arterial Myocyte Pannexin 1 Channel Controls Vascular Reactivity in Diabetic Hyperglycemia - PubMed
These results suggest a key role for Panx1 in controlling ATP signaling through the P2Y11L/AC5/AKAP5/PKA/CaV1.2 axis in arterial myocytes. This Panx1-led complex modulates cAMP levels, CaV1.2 activity, and vascular reactivity in response to diabetic hyperglycemia. Th …
