This means they have access to individuals’ tax info like adjusted gross income, networth, etc that are collected by the FAFSA. This data is supposed to be legally protected.
Approximately 20 members of Elon Musk’s staff have begun working within the Education Department. They have gained access to multiple sensitive internal systems, including a financial aid dataset containing the personal information of millions of students enrolled in the federal student aid program.

Called both my senators today (voicemail) and actually talked to someone at Paul Tonko’s office. Doesn’t feel like anywhere near enough but it’s a start.
