Weird kid with childhood religious trauma. Overeducated and underemployed. Tinker. Scavenger. Layabout. #awayforward. Sarcastic? Me?
Thank you Big Bird.

I've been pumping out of my field pond via solar panels all summer. I don't regret that. This is the lowest I've ever seen it though. Cattails high and dry. Poor leaches.

I've got a dozen little buildings in my back yard, depending how you count. Two are slated for removal, but that's just to make room for more. Maybe I need to build in someone else's back yard.

Meanwhile, the newest. All parts from the dump. Gable shingles went on yesterday. The Quackerbox:

380 watts of panel driving a 250 watt pump. My duck runneth over.

First I get tomatoes trellised. Then I find an umbrella, a folding chair, some nibbles and water, and a book, and head down to the town landing on Smith Cove for the day. It's a thought anyway.

I got the smallest, cheapest stick welder from Harbor Fright, and now I need to learn to weld thin stuff. My first attempt is about what you'd expect. I need a lot of practice, but I'm not dissatisfied.

There's a reason why I'm taking these big white spruce down. Rot and ant damage like this is common. There are plenty of balsam fir itching to take its place.

Dammit. I had a cable on it, but it went sideways on the hinge.

Oh well. I was going to take that greenhouse down anyway. I'll just have to shop-vac up the tempered glass gravel.

Today's duck pic. They grow fast. I'm not sure they even use their warming light bulb any more, and I'll be taking it away in a few days.

Tentative names: Snap and Pop. They both quackle.

It burned for about 30 seconds, maybe less, but it was glorious.

Happy Imbolc!

My superb little friend is still hard at work.

This ain't normal. I got within 10' while talking to it before it flew. It flies fine, but the behavior is off. Normally they're shy.

This barred owl has been hanging around my place, probably looking for mice. But my ducks don't like it.

I saw the ad. Someone was giving this boy away. I've fetched him home.

I might make soup soon.

Not long ago I mentioned the joy of driving beaters with interchangeable parts. I just found another pile of interchangeable parts. I'm getting a rebuildable engine, 5-speed, and a lot of accessory parts for $300. All this just a mile down the road from me.
