I could also buy a bottle and then pair it with these bratwurst which are produced about ten miles from where I grew up:

Still not as wonderful as this amazing table AFTER matchday 2 last year:

My annual "mitgliedskarte" from FC Heidenheim has arrived. 🙂🙂

It will be a hard year for FCH. The only silver lining is that it will be impossible for them to finish lower in the Bundesliga standings than they are expected to finish. 🙃

While technically not all the same shop (I don't think), this building in rural Michigan houses a sports bar, an ice cream parlor, AND a taxidermist.

No Elinor Ostrom signposts today, but the hike from the Simmenfalle waterfall (1104 meters above sea level) to the top of Wildstrubel (3244 meters above sea level) is one that I (and my legs) will remember for a very long time.

Took a hike above Lenk, Switzerland today and I looked over and saw a guide post that talked about Nobel Prize winning political-economist Elinor Ostrom. (Can't wait to add this to my course lecture slides about property rights.)

Happy 4th of July--FC Heidenheim edition. (It's the most red, white, and blue shirt I own.)

Let's just say that I want to see Frank Schmidt look as happy in the post-game interviews tomorrow as he did after the Union Berlin match two weeks ago. #NurDerFCH

(Although Elversberg is a great story too.)

Preparing for Union Berlin - FC Heidenheim match with other FCH supporters at (actually under) the Brandenburg Gate.

Live-tracking the uncontrolled descent of a 1970s-era Soviet space probe.

This is an actual exam question I used once in an intro econ class:

Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!

About a decade ago I made a meager attempt to trick someone into the reading of actual literature. (It doesn't show up well in the photo, but the book in the middle is Somerset Maugham's "Of Human Bondage")

Happy New Years to all fans of FC Heidenheim! May the new year bring another stay in the top flight for the team!

For the last twenty-five years I have always gotten a sense of Cold War nostalgia when going into the bunker in the basement of my Swiss in-laws' apartment building. I just hope it remains nostalgia.

Having a good time with my FCH friends! Just need a strong second half to make the day a really good time. 🙂
December 15, 2024 at 3:27 PM
Let's go, FC Heidenheim!!

I know that people often complain that German trains don't run on time, but I found a train in Germany that not only runs perfectly on time, it also delivers shots of schnapps in FC Heidenheim shot glasses!!

Happy Wednesgiving to those who celebrate!
