Thank you very much for reading! And our partners at Carolina Public Press dug into the Helene relief bill provision that benefitted the company: carolinapublicpress.org/73527/defens...
Defense contractor got special treatment in NC. But local legislators say they don't know who did it.
Measure let companies affected by Helene skip local incentives, bypassing public comment. Pratt & Whitney the only company to take the deal.

Wonderful work y'all did, just wanna chime in with that.

All of this is entwined. Our representatives won't change anything because if they had the moral fiber to do so, they would have taken any action against Israel's genocide. They didn't. Congressional Dems are not equipped to navigate this current moment.

Seems you missed the entire point of this.

We can fight this multi-front fight against ICE, against the military-industrial complex, against the genocide in Palestine. We can move from “it’s too big to do anything about it” to “it has to be done”, and we can do it today, we can do it now.

The war abroad always comes home to be the war against our neighbors. Our fights are linked against the military industrial complex, against oppression, against billionaires. We don’t have to accept this as the way things are, we can do something about it.

While Pratt and Whitney’s Asheville General Manager literally says: the Buncombe Plant allows them to build engines for machines of war. Our tax dollars are funding this. Our Helene recovery funds are funding this. We do not have to stay silent, we can hold our elected officials accountable.

Josh Stein, the governor, was praising the deal. governor.nc.gov/news/press-r...

And a new round of grants was given to RTX after Helene. Money that could have been spent on our neighbors, but instead was spent funding tools for terror here and abroad, money spent on funding the great wealth transfer from public funds to billionaires.

190 Million Dollars. $50 million dollars in highway funds that could make our roads safer. Almost $50 million dollars in sales tax exemptions. That money could have been spent on our community, instead of putting money into the pockets of billionaires and funding war in and out of our community.

The county and state government has made a choice to skip the normal processes of holding businesses accountable. This is par for the course when it comes to how the government uses our tax dollars. Buncombe County and the State have spent $190 million dollars on supporting RTX in Buncombe.

But in addition to funding the genocide in Gaza, RTX, the parent company to Pratt and Whitney (formerly Raytheon), they use their drone technology in the war on our neighbors here, and have contracts with ICE & CBP to provide their technology to commit acts of terrorism.

The county and state have spent a massive sum of money to prop up this weapons manufacturer who “manufactures engines for F-35 Lightning II fighter jet engines — used most recently by Israel in its Gaza offensive.”

But here’s the problem: the jobs they promised didn’t materialize. They didn’t fill 130 jobs they promised and YET, they still received tax refunds from the county even though they failed to meet their contractual obligation. See more here: inkstickmedia.com/special-trea...
Special Treatment Lines Defense Giant's Pockets in North Carolina
Records show that Pratt & Whitney was able to claim tax refunds for jobs it didn’t create and bypass public comment for new grants.

To that end, the fight to defeat ICE lies on the same path as the fight to end the military-industrial complex. The county government has given money to Pratt and Whitney who opened up a manufacturing plant in Buncombe County and gave them a grant for bringing jobs here.
November 27, 2025 at 1:27 AM
Our struggle is the same, the same one to defeat ICE and protect our neighbors, is the same struggle to protect Palestinians. They may not live in Asheville or Western North Carolina, but they’re fighting the exact same fight that we are. Asking for what they deserve: a safe place to live.

When we condemn the US for the way they treat our non-citizens, can we not too look at Israel and condemn the way their government treats non-citizens? ICE and the IDF are linked arm in arm. They have the same goals, the same aim. Terrorizing vulnerable populations.
November 27, 2025 at 1:27 AM
What Israel does and what the United States does are intimately linked. The US sends its police forces to Israel for training, to learn from the heinous way they treat Palestinians, and then bring it home to the US to use on Black and Brown people. It’s intentional.
