That is painting with an awfully broad brush. The case for whom? How can you generalize "religious" so broadly? Does Bill Maher's sneering atheism speak for all non-believers, or is there a whole lot more nuance?

I did not say that they did, but many people find or develop their morality through religion, and we should welcome that. John Wesley wrote "there is no holiness but social holiness." And James wrote that "faith without works is dead." That has led to a lot of good works and social progress.

Thank you. As a progressive Christian, it is very frustrating to hear the way religion is discussed in many circles. Love your neighbor and help the poor and oppressed is a pretty good place to start, and we learn that in churches.
