Strong believer in voting yes! We need so much more affordable housing and I'm glad Brad Lander, Mamdani's housing advisor, and even Cuomo are all in alignment!

also one more note, if prop 6 passes, we could be looking at 11 years of an Mamdani administration! The city and politics could look dramatically different by then!

B) I think that line of thinking also misses the fact that we have really awful city council members *right now* blocking housing. Vicky wants Mamdani deported. She also approved 3 units of affordable housing PER YEAR in her WHOLE DISTRICT. Council members will always be more extreme than the mayor
Casey Berkovitz on X: "Today on Instagram, the City Council claimed "We all want more housing." Meanwhile, Vickie Paladino is running ads like this one, and her district has added fewer than 6 affordable homes/year over the past decade. Don't be misled, indeed. https://t.co/vxt5d264gs" / X

(a) I think the whole "giving power to the mayor" thing is overblown, imo. The only one giving them power is prop 4! And even then, they're on a board with the borough president+ council speaker!

Mamdani + YES voter here. I think all the "adams pushed" stuff is overblown. They're really good proposals, and Brad Lander + Hochul + mamdani's housing advisor agree! We need more housing, and the current status quo is not working. I also recommend new kings guide in Brooklyn as well!

Strong believer in voting yes in all of them!

Cea Weaver, Mamdani's housing advisor supports them, as well as brad lander!

the problem is most voters don't know/care about city council, and the ones who do are far-and-away whiter/older/richer than the average NYCer

And make sure to also vote YES on proposals 2,3,4,5 just like brad lander and Kathy Hochul (who both spoke tn on stage!) to make sure we can build the 200,000 affordable units NYC desperately needs!!

Where does it say bill ackman supports affordable housing?

I'm happy Brad Lander and Cea Weaver, Mamdani's housing director, support the proposals!

Also just wanna point out that the group the other person linked, "village preservation" is on record opposing city of yes, which mamdani (and I) support because it will add thousands of new homes.

Totally fair questions, - follow up,how would you end member deference if not via this kind of board?

Since the council voted as a block by convention, I don't see a way to approve projects without some kind of system to override their block.
October 23, 2025 at 4:07 AM
Stronger believer in supporting 2,3,4,5 with @yesonaffhousing.bsky.social.

We have an affordable housing crisis and we need to end the needless delay and red tape. I really liked nyc2025.com 's summary, but tldr people have far too many levers to block housing projects they don't like!

Strong support of #4 here because "member deference" has allowed individual council members to block projects for decades. Not a single project in 15 years has passed city council without the approval of the local member. That isn't a council, that's a set of kingdoms.

Late2this, but wanted to say that Mamdani is supports a fast track for affordable housing (as q2 will do) and ending Member Deference (as q5 will do!). I hope he endorses the proposals at the next debate!

Also Mamdani's #1 endorsee, Brad Lander, supports the proposals!

What do you make of the politics around the NYC ballot propositions. Cuomo endorsing affordable housing and Mamdani silent "feels" backwards but I understand the incentive structure. Do you think Mamdani gains leverage by staying silent?
October 16, 2025 at 5:02 PM
As much as i'm a proponent for the 4-story approach (if it was up to me, it would be 10+), IMO the far more important part of this plan is moving the entire city to multi-family-by-right. Even if we end up at 3-stories multifamily, with no unit cap, vs SFH today, that's a huge win.
