I find the speed, the pace, of online culture to be frightening. Boomers and GenX need to learn how kids are falling down the rat hole parts of the Internet. There's a lot of useful resources online, matched with useless, predatory, and dangerous crap. Kids need to be taught to think critically.

Granted, back in 1983 when I was in HS, we had no choice but to play our games face-to-face. Fellow D&D or Atari gamers were few and far between. Local game conventions, University game clubs, were how we met each other. Back then, parents feared their lonely kids being sucked into satanism.

There is a developing story here in CO of the shooter at the Evergreen HS being "radicalized on-line." Too early for details. However, there was a recent NPR story about toxic online networks, such as 764. What do online groups provide that in-person groups don't?

I have found the Focus Friend app helpful in keeping me off my phone lately. I don't want to interrupt the little bean's knitting. It takes effort, psychological hacks, and worthy media to reclaim attention. It's a worthy pursuit!
