Re: my other post + this: absolutely hilarious. Marathon had a stealing artists art scandal, and now this has AI generated content. If I were feeling cynical about a genre I'm not a fan of I might be looking to draw some conclusions... 🤔😂

I'm curious to find reviews from Tarkov fans (or others) for both cus that might have the most details on the differentiators in that genre and help me understand what is and isn't working about each one for people who broadly do seem to enjoy the genre, cus I don't get it all all but am curious

So I'm not really one who gets or gels with extraction shooters to begin with. What I was curious about Arc, from my more remote position, was that it did seem to be landing well with some fan base during its early tests, and growing users, while Marathon was tanking. I was curious why.

this is most of what i felt about Escape From Tarkov when it was out, and it's stayed popular and in rotation with a few friends of mine and I just don't.
I really find the lose everything loop unrewarding, it's usually scared boring looting and then moment of surprise panic, and then back to menu

spoilers for like mission 1 of Ixion:

Suffice to say, your test jump blows up the moon and by the time you return it's rained down on earth obliterating all life on the planet 👉👈

There was an indie scifi citybuilder game a few years ago called Ixion where you are in charge of a prototype for a fleet to take humanity to the starts, that after the tutorial mission, has a peak satire cutscene of exactly this attitude. It's pretty perfect

It's not without its own drama and difficulties but if you can find and pick a server you gel with of like minded folks you might have a platform that won't be dolling out weekly bans over minor speech and opinions. And if you already have an audience, some might follow you over too :)

also mastodon exists. It's been said before it's not got as big an audience if you're trying to reach wide as a creator but it also has been observed it has a higher ratio of good potential audience / engagement than many other sites. It could pay off but your millage may vary?🤷‍♀️

Which is a little problematically proving the adage "you get what you pay for".

As a proponent of UBI, socialism, open source and etc, I don't want that to be a universal truth.

But also we're still living in a capitalist hellscape at the moment so do as you can and will while we try and improve

If the next dem candidate said "when elected I will specifically ban your family from work, school, public life, and possibly put them in jail. Oh also no medicine" would you still argue we should all vote for them, or find it kinda weird and suggest maybe another candidate should be picked?

Cameron slavering at the prospect of stripping the industries he helped to define and build for parts is a great object lesson in how hollow the rampant, endless pursuit of "more" and "better" is in the arts.

And not trying to be rude or anything just sharing the feeling. It sucks. I don't care. I prolly don't want to watch a 5 min video on it, even from you 😢😪🫩
