and Iain McCalman's 1988 RADICAL UNDERWORLD. I'm re-reading parts of it for the umpteenth time and remain amazed by the depth and breadth of his scholarship. I keep thinking I've 'discovered' something, then see that McCalman knew about it when I was a toddler.
