The car crash point is important. It's incredible to me that people terrified of violent crime have little or no concern about the massively larger danger of cars. And this is something where Canada doesn't fare so well relative to other countries. Lots of room for improvement on it.

Once you start thinking of AI as a war on humanity, on human thought, on human inquiry, on human labor, on nuance and critical thinking, it slots in pretty seamlessly with the right wing ideological project, oligarchical political projects, big tech's political projects, etc

The original post was somewhat misleading. CPC and BQ members were beating their anti-woke drums and the response to their questions about data involved discussion of anonymisation of data and data ethics that you'd expect from research organisations. Reading the full transcript is useful here.

Exactly. You literally depend on billionaires if you use AI. That's the *opposite* of democratisation. It's like, "I'm glad Sam Altman keeps the wordpipe flowing, I hope he doesn't crank up the price of nouns again though."
