I was just being lighthearted. The idea of a republic is good, but I imagine we'd have to pay too much attention to it for too long for it to end in anything other than a fudge or a disaster. Whereas having a constitution that is as vague as ours keeps us all on our toes.

Gotta ask who the "we" would be in this scenario. Can you be sure that Wales has not already seceded *in Welsh*?

Staff data? We're preparing a consultation on that at the moment. I can imagine the optional coverage of non-academic staff is bit of a pain for UCEA.

I am flattered that you think that people _inside_ the UK might understand the constitution! It is my firm belief that the fact that most of us don't understand it very completely is the only reason it continues to function at all.
