Natural history especially birds and moths.
Was that a confirmed vittata Chris, or suspected?

A much better pic of the Blastobasis...

Carcina quercana

I think the first two are Ectoedemia subbimaculella. The third looks Stigmella. And the fourth could be an old mine of Tischeria ekebladella.

That's Carcina quercana, it's silken retreat and adjacent grazing damage.

Nope. I'll try the pheromones again though...

Good luck!
November 6, 2025 at 5:30 PM
I'm fine with that 🙂

A nice selection, wish I could achieve that here!

I've got the one for Tuta absoluta out as well as SBB...

I'm still waiting for Sprawler to grace the garden but then I'm still waiting for Chestnut! It's not great here early and late in the year, too far from any decent woodland, sadly.

It's been pants of late. Very windy tonight so very low expectations. Roll on tomorrow night!...

Actinic is out....

If I'd had odd ones before now, I would suggest local. However, local records seem to be on the up each year, so I suspect the process of them becoming established is well underway. Which is nice!

Crazy, I'd only seen one before this morning! Local records are on the up. Possibly on the cusp of being established, who knows!?, time will tell...

Book/internet and camera are my tools for plant ID, a bit old school but I learn better that way! There's bound to be an app out there.

Cheers, it was a fruitful little walk, I've just identified leaf-rolls of Calybites phasianipennella on Dock and I found some early Stigmella mines on a Buckthorn (had never clocked the tree previously!) which i suspect may be catharticella - not a species i expected to find on the doorstep.

Parornix devoniella on Hazel, Ectoedemia erythrogenella on Bramble, Phyllonorycter joannisi + Stigmella aceris on Norway Maple and Stigmella salicis 'Cluster 6' (egg upperside and by the midrib) on Sallow.
October 11, 2025 at 1:59 PM
I'd certainly be up for some of that!
