I havn't followed this topic closely, but I wonder : could it also be a way to create an opening for the nuclearization of South Korea ? Given the unseriousness of US foreign policy these days, it's getting harder and harder for the South to rely on US security guarantees...

I wonder how effective it actually is, vs how much it adds to the overall unit cost of shaheds, which used to be very cheap in the beggining. Not so much now, I suppose. How long until each one costs as much a ballistic missile ?

2)These are reportedly international waters, where US coast guards don't have authority
3)US Coast guards don't typically carry warheads. This is the navy's doing
4)The alledged crime (drug trafficking) doesn't carry the death penalty by US law
