@damosays.bsky.social
Irish. Pass-remarkable. Here for speculative fiction, hero-less comics, dice games, audio dramas and sundry geekery. Scribbler.
Bumping up this upcoming release again, and my story in it. These books are so beatiful, the author lineup is particularly stellar, and @marieoregan.bsky.social and @paulkane.bsky.social have curated and perfected the stories masterfully.

This is ‘Reading Chaucer’ by Philip Jackson. It sits in the gardens of Oakfield Demesne, here in Donegal and, less frequently, in my nightmares. Now appearing in yours. You’re welcome.

With the hanging of the @pauljholden.com originals, the games room nears completion. 26 years old, PJ.

@fanad-art.bsky.social Monk followed me home from Ionad Cois Locha inniú. Love him.

It’s #transgenderdayofvisibility, I’m utterly in thrall of the final book in the ‘Her Majesty’s Royal Coven’ series, Human Rites (comes out in July, loads of time to get up to speed), and @junodawson.bsky.social is also writing for the latest Doctor Who - show her all the love and read these books.

Stealing isn’t a form of negotiation; it’s not a form of trade. This isn’t an even playing field.
Snake oil.

Generative AI is not a creative art. It’s a negotiation with chaos. And chaos is a House that always wins.

Snake oil. Snake. Oil.

Do not yield your vitriol, folks.

Snake-oil and the linguistic editing that accompanies it:

Creatives’ arguments are fair and nuanced, but are *not articulated*, while the tech side’s are qualified, coded as ‘fair’ and ‘innovated.’

‘Neither side wins’ suggests the argument is balanced, it imposes equal validity by its wording. 1/3

Michael Lowry was added to the “D’yiz wanna do a government, lads?” group chat by accident, wasn’t he? That’s the only explanation.

These are, “those days of tending tender things,” folks.

Be the ones.

I just got asked if I’d like to read this. Would I like to read it? I’d have sold my soul, frankly. Which is a bit on the nose, but…
Massive thanks, @harpercollins.bsky.social and to @junodawson.bsky.social for this; I have been counting the days for this book. All hail the witches. #amreading #HMRC

And last, but not least, is @laurenbeukes.com. Zoo City floored me when I first read it, a towering piece of urban magic-realism. The Shining Girls terrified me, held me by the throat and had me glued to the end. A brilliant, brilliant author.

The prolific @premeemohamed.com is another multitalented genre surfer. She ranges from mythic darkness to cosmic nu-weird across her novels and short stories. She’s weird-mythic. She’s brilliant.

@rfkuang.bsky.social created a true masterpiece in Babel, which invited comparisons to Susanna Clarke as a way of classifying her. She is so much more than this. Yellowface directly challenges the boxing of non-white authors, and reveals a massive, ranging talent. She’s a star.
March 8, 2025 at 3:29 PM
Susanna Clarke does not need my recommendation, she is listed here so I can thank her for making my life better.

RF Long/Jessica Thorne ( @rflong.bsky.social ) is a fantasy romance author, for both adult and YA audiences, and her books are soulful, truly heroic, and built on real connections between her characters, and protagonists who choose connection, rather than being incomplete without it, which I admire.

@sarahpinborough.bsky.social writes it all: crime, thriller, historical, fantasy. She blends her genres like an expert mixologist and she is the undisputed queen of the plot twist. But her writing is also raw, empathetic, unflinching and wise. The Language of Dying is short, but literally perfect.
March 8, 2025 at 3:29 PM
And championing historical fantasy close to home, @shaunalawless.bsky.social writes Ireland’s era of heroes with unparalleled style and a peerless sensibility for the gods of our homeland. Gormflaith is a queen to give Cersei Lannister a run for her money. I adore these.
March 8, 2025 at 3:29 PM
Olesya Salnikova Gilmore’s Russian fantasies mix the historical with the mythic and romantic. These books have grandeur and bloody hands both, and the women in her books are powerhouses.
March 8, 2025 at 3:29 PM
Another absolute master of historical fantasy is @kateheartfield.com, whose books are sweeping yet intimate, tightly-plotted, and truly magical. All the thumbs up.
March 8, 2025 at 3:29 PM
HG Parry writes truly stunning historical fantasies, and might just be my absolute favourite author at this time. Meticulous, passionate, rebellious, sensitive stories, absolute champion.
March 8, 2025 at 3:29 PM
@bethlewis.bsky.social writes across genres with more heart, grit and ferocity than most. The Origins of Iris, in particular, is a compelling exploration of abuse and regret with an amazing SF twist.
