Michelle Mone and Doug Barrowman owe £188m to HMRC.

£188,000,000.

Imagine what would happen to you if you owed £100.

Straight to court.

I consider myself a patriot. I will support the decisions that Reeves makes in the Budget. Because she’s way better than Kwarteng, Hunt, Sunak, Javid and the stable heating Chancellor and that one who owed HMRC £5m (or is that the same one?)

Very important to note that benefits weren’t stopped because of evidence of fraud, but because HMRC thought it saw something that *might have been* evidence of fraud. They didn’t check. They just stopped paying.

Absolute contempt for their victims.

Published in @financialtimes.com today!!!

The UK’s ‘Tax Gap’ (what HMRC expects to receive vs what it does) is almost £50 billion per year)

This is exactly what I have been discussing with @sdoughtymp.bsky.social for the last two months.

Douglas Barrowman and Michelle Mone made £65m selling faulty PPE to the Government.

HMRC now wants £39m in unpaid tax — and we think we know why: Barrowman and Mone may have avoided tax on their £65m profit.

But people will vote for them to run a country?

They can’t even run their own merch site, fucking dunces.

Reform UK failed to pay VAT to HMRC on its sales (tickets, merchandise). About £400k in all.

PPE Medpro linked to Michelle Mone owes £39m in unpaid taxes.

The company also owes the public purse £148m for supplying unusable surgical gowns.

Company is bankrupt. HMRC ranks as unsecured creditor for taxes owed by the company.

Where has the money vanished to? Will anything be recovered?

I suppose if you accuse everyone of wrongdoing, you're bound to get some right.

Pity HMRC don't pursue the billionaires and their businesses

Maybe he can tell me why I have to pay import duty and customs clearance on so many materials from the EU??
Of which a large amount goes to HMRC.

From @tbij.bsky.social: An MP has demanded HMRC to release its official estimate of how much tax is being lost to offshore havens – information TBIJ discovered is currently being withheld by the authority.

Read more:

Reminds me of the time HMRC sold 600 of its own offices to a company in a tax haven (Bermuda) for £220m, which it now leases back for £269m per year

The result would be:

PAYE @ 45% = £29m
Employee NICs @ 2% = £1m
Employer NICs @ 13.8% = £9m

TOTAL: £39m

The same amount HMRC are claiming.

Gosh, what a coincidence.

Barrowman-linked companies have a history of avoiding tax using dodgy schemes and then going into administration before HMRC can recover a penny.
