Unreasonable excitement for the lastest McSweeney's Quarterly. Is it the Trapper Keeper binder, the storybook template, the folder, or the story in the form of a scantron test? It's all that and more! Also, purchased at the International Library of Young Authors. 😊

College football fan 10th grader asks me, "Dad, do you know the transitive property? Sam houston is better than Georgia." and shows me this pic. Proud math teacher dad moment. 😉

My 7th grader made me lunch today and labeled it so I knew what I would be eating. ❤️

I also really like the circles unit for this reason. Unfortunately with so many theorems (are there really 7 arc-angle?), it frequently comes down to memorizing and struggling to figure out which to use. I prefer to limit scope and emphasize why they work to keep focus on connecting concepts.

Looking for resources for students who missed significant portions of the Geo transformations unit, I looked into Khan Academy. Not only were the resources not good, but then I received this email. 🤮 Lesson planning is one of my favorite parts.

Need to finish grading and planning, so it's a perfect time to work on a prop for my numberjack costume. New tool: protraxtor

Resources are tight this year, so when I stopped in the bathroom on my way to make copies, I almost brought my precious ream of paper into the stall with me cuz I didn't want anyone taking it. 😅

The last couple weeks have been rough, and then this showed up in my inbox today. When you're in the thick of it, it can be challenging to keep in mind why we do what we do.

Apparently 6 years ago I premiered Cyrano de Aubergine. Spoiler: the critics ate it up.

Agreed. I don't think taking away students' agency and authority will solve the bigger crises below the green line. Maybe there will be more interactions outside of classtime, potentially leading to new relationships, but what happens when they get their phones at the end of the day?
